Wood County wrong-way crash suspect found

Posted: Updated:

Law enforcement officers say they found a wrong-way driver who apparently fled the scene after a fiery crash on I-75 in Wood County Tuesday morning.

13abc was the only local television station present when officers found Gregory Orick, 40, in a field off of I-75. Medics transported him to the hospital. He has not been charged yet.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol says the crash happened on I-75 near mile marker 171 outside of Cygnet.

Troopers say Orick got on I-75 northbound from State Route 25 traveling the wrong way. Orick hit a semi truck driven by Michael Fox, 53, of Dayton head-on. Fox's truck caught fire. Meanwhile, Orick got out of his car and ran into a wooded area off I-75.

Law enforcement spent hours searching for Orick, who is from the Lima area.

The victim was taken to an area hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation. He is expected to be fine.

Ohio State Highway Patrol says it appears alcohol was a factor in the crash. It is the second wrong-way crash on I-75 in Wood County in the past six months.

We often report stories on the Ohio State Highway Patrol's K-9 unit. The dogs help Troopers find huge quantities of illegal drugs in our region every year. But between the big hits is a lot of hard work,
Ride along as an elite group of four legged crime fighters and their handlers take drugs off Northwest Ohio roads.
