Mutant butterflies found near Fukushima

Posted: Updated:

Researchers say they've made a disturbing discovery near the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant.

Scientists say butterflies are starting to show abnormalities in their legs, abdomens, and eyes, as well as changes in their color patterns and wing sizes.

The study began two months after the deadly earthquake and tsunami in March 2011. Researchers collected pale grass blue butterflies that were exposed to the radiation as larvae.

However, the researches say humans should be much more resistant to the radiation.
