TOLEDO, Ohio -

The man in charge of Moody Manor apartments speaks out about the recent tragedy at the complex. Last week 1-year-old Keondra Hooks was shot and killed her sister 2-year-old Leondra was badly injured and continues to recover.

The executive director of the complex is now talking about programs available to residents.

"To just see all the broken glass and those baby bottles it was devastating it was just tragic," says executive director Andy Kott.

Kott recalled helping his staff board up the apartment riddled by bullets.

Moody Manor has security camera's, their own security and off-duty Toledo police officers who patrol the property.

Kott says he looks forward to sitting down with Mayor Mike bell to discuss how they can make the development safer.

"There are many many good people at moody they out number the bad," says Kott

"When we moved here it was just for senior citizens. it was real nice when I moved here. It's still nice its just the wrong crowd around here," says resident Carthy Smith

Despite the senseless acts of crime in the complex. The housing development offers programs to help residents better their lives. Moody Manor has a reading room for kids 3 to 5 years old. A computer room and a conference room which has a wall dedicated to success stories to encourage residents to follow their dreams.

The low income housing is also working on mural which will be installed on the back fence of the garden.

"The older kids and teens were doing the painting of the project and they have probably been working on that since may on that," says Kott.

Kott says they've put together forums to engage the community and educate residents on ridding their neighborhood of crime

"We've also with the community empowerment offered the forum to work on these things we have not had as much success with getting adults to participate in the meetings and that's the frustrating part, " says Kott.

Meetings staff and police say provide helpful information on how to fight delinquency and violence in their community.
