Shooting survivor mom remembers daughters killed in attack

Posted: Updated:

Sisters Amy Morrills and Lisa Gritzmaker, were shot and killed just over one month ago. Today the Blissfield, Michigan community joined to focus on the positive following that tragedy.

Thirty-four-year-old Amy Merrill and her 24-year-old sister Lisa Gritzmaker were shot and killed by Merrill's estranged boyfriend Thomas Jack Fritz on July 13th and just over one month later  the Blissfield community came together to remember the sisters and raise money for their children.

Chico Marcinez arranged the benefit at the Blissfield American Legion Hall.

"This is great. The small community of Blissfield its not like, they're is not a lot of people live here, but there all here today it seems like. We do a lot of benefits. I've helped out so many people in the past. It's just what my wife and I do. We just do it. No questions."

Morrills and Gritzmaker's mother,  Robin Macowen was also shot on that night, but survived, only to find out her daughters did not.

"They were always there with a big ole smile and a big ole heart. They were just the best daughters I could have ever dreamed of having. It's an amazing feeling that so many people that didn't know them or barely even knew them could care so much about the impact that, that man did on our family."

The benefit consisted of a taco dinner, live dancing and entertainment, along with a silent auction and various raffles.

All the proceeds from the benefit are going to go to a college fund for the children of Lisa Gritzmaker and Amy Morrils.
