TPS assistant principal faces termination

A Toledo Public Schools assistant principal could be terminated at Tuesday's school board meeting. Sandra Meeks Speller is accused of putting her hands on students and using force to discipline.

Teachers accuse Meeks Speller of putting kids in headlocks and pushing them. She's also accused of saying that white teachers cannot touch black students but she could because she was black.

Sandra Meeks Speller has worked for TPS for 16 years. The Spring Elementary assistant principal was placed on paid administrative suspension earlier this month.

Meeks Speller declined to comment on the allegations, but her sister says the allegations against her sister were false, and that Meeks Speller is great with her students.

Meeks Speller is also accused of intimidating teachers, telling another African American teacher that there were too many African Americans in spring elementary school.  She's also accused of refusing to discipline black students sent to the office by white teachers. Toledo Public Schools leaders decline to comment on this story.

The TPS school board has to approve Speller's termination.

The board will decide on it at Tuesday's meeting at 5:30pm.
