Toledo police say store robberies linked

Posted: Updated:

Police are warning store owners about a man who's robbed several businesses. They've all happened on the east side.

Detectives say last week Sunoco on Front street, Subway on Main and Wally's Stop and Go on East Broadway were all robbed on the same day.

We can only show you the shoes of a witness who tried to stop a robbery suspect. The young man didn't want us to show his face.

"The guy came in behind me with another guy and took out a gun," says the witness.

It happened Friday at Wally's Stop and Go on East Broadway.

"What did he say when he came in," asked 13abc's Alexis Means.

"Everybody back up I don't want nothing to do with you just give me the money in the register," he says.

The witness says the clerk gave the robber the money in the cash register, but the robber didn't get away without a fight. The witness tried to overpower the suspect.

"When he turned around I hit him in the back of the head. We fell out the door and took off running I chased after him for a little. I was just like forget it. It wasn't really worth it," he says.

"This particular incident is racking a gun and the people in the store the witness. I'm not going to second guess him but they came to the conclusion that this guy may resort to violence at that point and the witness acted," says Sgt. Tim Noble.

Sgt. Tim Noble says same suspect is responsible for robbing the Subway on Main and a gas station on Front Street.

According to this police report a suspect with the same description came in the gas station pointed a gun at the clerk and said "I don't want any problems now empty your register"

"The golden rule is there's no money in the cash register there's no property in the store that's worth anybody getting hurt," says Sgt. Noble.

Detectives are reviewing the surveillance tapes from the stores.
