A state-appointed referee will decide the fate of an assistant principal in the Toledo Public School district. The school board tonight decided to have the referee involved in the decision regarding Sandra Meeks Speller. The Spring Elementary Assistant principal has been with the district 16 years. She was placed on paid suspension earlier this month after reports surfaced that she, among other things, put a student in a headlock, intimidated teachers and made racially charged comments.

2. NAUTICAL VILLAGE PATHWAY

Toledo's mayor joined people in Point Place for a special event at Bay View Park. They marked the opening of the Nautical Village Pathway with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. The city says it allocated capital improvement funds to help with construction. The pathway is the first phase of development for the nautical village. Other plans include a replica casino pier, a rustic lodge and a nautical-themed restaurant and retail outlets. The city says private funds will help pay for future development.
