Tropical Storm Isaac churns in Caribbean

Posted: Updated:
CARIBBEAN SEA -

Tropical Storm Isaac continues to churn in the Caribbean, and while clouds associated with the storm cover a large area, the strongest winds near the center of the storm are only around 40 mph, this Thursday morning.  The storm will continue to move west, potentially crossing part of Haiti and then Cuba from Friday into the weekend.  The storm will likely strengthen, and Isaac may become a hurricane before a potential landfall in Florida.

Meanwhile, Tropical Depression 10 is farther east over the open waters of the Atlantic, and it has maximum sustained winds of 35 mph.  The tropical depression will likely become a Tropical Storm, and it may impact the island of Bermuda next week.

If a tornado threatens, get into the basement. If you don't have a basement, a small, interior room in the lowest floor of your home is relatively safe. Avoid rooms with windows. Mobile homes are not safe in a tornado.
