Downtown Toledo streets were filled with runners Saturday morning for the second annual "Heroes" run to raise money for Heroes in Action.
Fifteen thousand military members call Northwest Ohio and Southeast Michigan home. They and their families get support from Heroes in Action.
Dawn Heisler, director of Heroes in Action says, "We send care packages overseas. We usually send 70 to 100 care packages and we do a lot of personal needs for the families of those that are active and our veterans at home whether it's house repair or auto."
The organization counts on donations like those raised through Saturday's Heroes run.
Marine Bret Reynolds ran with his Marine Dog Bernie. The 11-year-old dog is trained to sniff explosives and track down suspects and is also fit enough to run a 5k.
"She's done 2 combat tours in Iraq so she's ready to just be at home and getting some love."
Bernie ran with her fellow Marines, like Bret, and other members of the military.
After the race kids too part in a boot camp challenge and Toledo Fire and Police engaged in a dodgeball challenge.
