Speeder hits car, pickup, on I-75, shoots self

FRENCHTOWN TOWNSHIP, Mich -

FRENCHTOWN TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - Southeastern Michigan authorities say a man speeding south on Interstate 75 crashed into two other vehicles, then fatally shot himself in the head when witnesses went to check on him.

The Monroe County sheriff's department says the crash happened in Frenchtown Township near Monroe about 10:15 a.m. Sunday.

The department says the speeding car first struck a pickup truck and then a car.

Sgt. Troy Goodnough says two passengers in the car were taken to Mercy Hospital in Monroe for treatment of minor injuries. He says the department is withholding the identity of the dead man until it notifies his relatives.

The sergeant says the crash limited I-75 to one lane of traffic for 1 hour, 45 minutes.
