Toledo Public Schools prepares for first day

Posted: Updated:

Tuesday is the first day of school for first-through 12 graders enrolled in Toledo Public Schools.

Kindergartner will start the following week. TPS Superintendent Dr. Jerome Pecko tells 13abc,
"The elementary buildings K-8th are all on a half day schedule and out high school is on a full day schedule. "

Dr. Pecko says different schools will have different start times this year so he urges parents to check the district's website to make sure about the time. Pecko tells 13abc, "I think its very important to get a good nights sleep and their ready in the morning...in the clothes on the dress code...and their standing in the door when that door opens."

The district announced last week that students K-8 would be served free breakfast regardless if they are signed up for free and reduced lunch.  This year Rogers, Woodward, and Scott will also be served a free breakfast as part of a pilot program.

Dr. Pecko tells 13abc, "For those parents who want to take advantage of that they have got to get to school when the doors open ...they cannot wait until 5 minutes before the start of school....so get your students there on time."

If you haven't signed your child up for free and reduced lunch and you think your eligible, school leaders want you to fill out an application. Dr. Pecko tells 13abc, "They will be made available at the school and those will also be posted on our website."

Also if you want to opt out the districts directory, you need to do that too by October 15th or outside agencies and other schools can access your child's information and address.

If you lost the form you can assess another one on the districts website www.tps.org
