TPS students head back to school in new building

TOLEDO, Ohio -

We brought you the exclusive first look inside the new Pickett Elementary. The excitement for the first day of school started well before students even made it inside the new building.

It's the first time a school bus has pulled up to this curb and the first time parents walked their kids to class heading towards the new Pickett Elementary school. Anxiously waiting for the doors to open, Amya Stubblifield tells us she had a lot to look forward to over the summer.

"I like this one better then the other one," says Amya

The excitement certainly spilling over to the parents. Amya's father says he's proud to drop his daughter off at a school where he believes she'll receive e a great education.

"just being updated to what's going on now a days, updating everything it helps out a lot seeing what kind of computers or how they rebuilt everything I'm looking forward to see it." Says Quinyon Stubblifield

Students spent the last two years in a temporary location after leaving the former building on Lawrence Ave. The new school is more than 43 thousand square feet- complete with solar panels on the roof making it more energy efficient- and features state of the art classroom technology.

"Our students have been patient, our parents have been patient. It was time for some upgrades, our students deserve the technology and we're excited we could bring it to them," says Martha Jude, Principal

Pickett Elementary will hold an open house for the public September 12th.
