A state agency has confirmed genetic material from invasive Asian Carp was found last month in the Sandusky Bay and Sandusky River.
The Ohio Department of Natural Resources says 20 out of 150 of the water samples taken from the bay and river in late July tested positive for DNA of Asian carp.
ODNR and other agencies also tested the Maumee Bay, but test results from those water samples have not been completed. Researchers did not find any actual carp during a search they conducted while taking the water samples. The carp are considered a great threat to Lake Erie's ecosystem.
Meanwhile, the University of Michigan is expected to get nearly $300,000 from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration to study the possible effects of Asian Carp on the Great Lakes.
