Posted: Updated:

SWANTON TWP., Ohio (WTVG)  -- 74 members of the greatest generation are headed to our nation's capitol to see the memorial built in their honor.

The veterans of World War Two all took the latest trip free of charge through Honor Flight of Northwest Ohio. It's a non-profit organization, made possible through volunteers and donations.

Today, the second to last flight of the year departed the Grand Aire hangar at Toledo Express Airport.

Veterans, along with their chaperones, called "Guardians", are scheduled to visit the WWII memorial and other monuments in Washington, D.C. They will then return home tonight, bringing new memories home with them.

Honor Flight of Northwest Ohio has taken 1,082 veterans to the WWII memorial since it formed in 2007.
