Tiffin native in middle of Hurricane Isaac

Posted: Updated:

Mitch Kagy, 23, grew up in Tiffin and then went to college in Orlando and now lives in New Orleans, right in the path of Hurricane Isaac.

Kagy spoke with us on the phone today describing what's happening about 30 miles from shore. The Northwest Ohio native lost power late Tuesday night and says for the past few day the town has essentially been shut down as residents wait out the storm.

"We are in a home that is elevated off the ground...just minor wind damage blowing the front door open and some leaking but nothing too terrible yet," says Kagy.

Isaac is Kagy's first hurricane and he made sure to stock up on food and supplies on Monday and since then has been hunkered down at home.

"My anxiety was pretty high the past few days, but last night we were out on the porch but it was getting pretty windy but nothing I haven't experienced in Lake Erie," says Kagy.

Kagy is using Facebook to keep in touch with family and friends, posting updates online and sharing a photo of his storm stockpile. He says the biggest challenge was stocking up on non-perishable foods.

But despite torrential rains, he says he is safe and is sending a big hello to family and friends in Northwest Ohio.
