Ohio Turnpike reopened after fatal accident

Posted: Updated:

Traffic is flowing on the eastbound lanes of the turnpike once again after a major wreck forced detours during the busy morning commute.

The crash took the life of a truck driver from Wisconsin. It happened in the eastbound lanes right along the exit ramp to I-280, exit number 71 in Stony Ridge, around 5:30 Friday morning.

State troopers say one semi had its blinker on and was getting off the road, when another commercial truck slammed into the back of it.

The tractor-trailer then flipped and landed sideways on 80-90. The impact killed the driver of that semi.

A few seconds later, an SUV driven by an employee of the turnpike apparently crashed into the wreck.

It took roughly five hours to clear the debris, finish the investigation, and reopen the turnpike.

The man who died has been identified as George Belchev. The two other drivers were both taken to the hospital. Both are expected to be ok.
