Isaac's moisture near; 2 more named storms

Posted: Updated:
SPRINGFIELD, Missouri -

After 20" of rain in a few areas near New Orleans, moisture leftover from what was once Hurricane Isaac is bringing major drought relief to the central US.

The center of low pressure is sliding north across Missouri today, and the storm system will soon begin to turn to the east, driven by upper-level winds.

Locally, we can expect plenty of cloud cover this weekend as the moisture surges north across the Ohio Valley.

Isolated showers and thunderstorms will be possible on Saturday, and scattered showers and thunderstorms will likely occur on Sunday.  The heaviest rain will be south of the Ohio Turnpike.

Most of the metro area should end up with less than 1" of rain, and many areas to the north of the Turnpike will likely only receive a small fraction of an inch.

Meanwhile, over the open waters of the Atlantic, there are two named storms that will not impact land any time soon.  Hurricane Kirk is a Category 2 storm with winds of 105 mph near the center of circulation.  Farther south, Tropical Storm Leslie has maximum sustained winds of 65 mph.
