ST. PAUL, Minn. – The University of Minnesota scored twice in the first 20 minutes, then exploded for five second-half goals in a 7-0 dismantling of the Bowling Green State University women's soccer team Thursday night (Aug. 30).  The non-conference match was held at Elizabeth Lyle Robbie Stadium in St. Paul, Minn.

With the win, the Golden Gophers improve to 3-2-0 on the season.  The Falcons drop to 1-3-0 on the year.

Taylor Uhl scored three goals for the Gophers, who also got goals from Allie Phillips, Allie Reinke, Haley Helverson and Taylor Wodnick.  For Uhl, just a sophomore, the hat trick was the third of her career.  She already has scored eight goals this season.

The hosts got on the board with just over three minutes gone, as Phillips drove a ball to the far post from the right side of the 18-yard box.  Helverson lobbed a ball over BGSU senior goalkeeper Becca Ison in the 17th minute for a 2-0 Minnesota lead.

Uhl scored two goals in the first seven minutes of the second half, and also tallied a goal in the 74th minute of the match to complete the hat trick.  Wodnick registered Minnesota's fifth goal in the 68th minute, and after Uhl's third goal, Reinke closed the scoring with just over 11 minutes left.

The Gophers had a decisive 23-3 advantage in total shots, including a 10-0 margin in the first half.  Minnesota put 18 of those 23 shots on goal, compared to two for the Falcons.

Cat Parkhill played the first 73-plus minutes in goal for the home team, while Kristen Knutson also saw time between the posts.  Each 'keeper made one save.

For the Falcons, Ison played the first 70:44, making seven saves while allowing five goals.  Freshman Jenna Underwood made her collegiate debut, playing the last 19:16 and facing no fewer than six shots on goal in that time.  Underwood made four stops in the match.

All 22 players who made the trip to St. Paul got into the match for the Falcons, with 20 of those players seeing at least 14 minutes of time on the pitch.

The Falcons remain in Minnesota, as BGSU will take on Western Kentucky University in neutral-site action on Saturday afternoon (Sept. 1).  That match is scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m. Eastern Time at ELR Stadium.
