Lourdes Men’s Golf Improves in Round Two of Lou Collins Tournament

GRAND RAPIDS - Lourdes University shaved seven strokes off of its first round total on Saturday morning, firing a second round 332 at Bedford Valley Country Club in Grand Rapids, Mich.

The Gray Wolves finished the tournament in 15th place overall with a 36-hole total of 671.

"I was pleased that we showed improvement over Friday," head coach Scott Simon said after the round.  "All four of our scorers had better rounds than yesterday.  This is probably the strongest field we will play all year and we got some valuable experience we can use as the season progresses."

Sean McGuire (Twinsburg, Ohio/Twinsburg H.S.) led the way with a final round 79 for Lourdes, finishing the 36-hole event at 159.  Jacob VanDyke (North Canton, Ohio/Hoover H.S.) added an 82, two strokes better than his opening round, to finish at 166 while Cody Berg (Garrettsville, Ohio/James A. Garfield H.S.) fired an 85 to card 171 for the event.

Nick Flasco (Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio/Woodridge H.S.) shot 86 over the 6,980-yard, par-71 layout to improve by three shots from day one, posting 175, while Corey Linser (Toledo, Ohio/Cardinal Stritch H.S.) turned in a 92 to finish at 182.

Indiana Wesleyan won the tournament by 18 strokes over Madonna and Owens Community College with a 36-hole total of 582 (298-284).  Indiana Wesleyan's Tyler Keith won the individual title by one shot over Marty Predmensky of Alma, finishing at one-under par 141 (71-70).

Lourdes will return to action on Friday afternoon with a dual match against Indiana-East.  The event begins at noon in Westchester, Ind.
