Perrysburg parent groups bounce back after thefts

Posted: Updated:

It hasn't been the most care-free summer for members of the Toth Parents' Club and PEPA, the Perrysburg Elementary Parents' Association.  In May, Kiki Lorann, a Perrysburg parent and school volunteer stole nearly $90 thousand from both organizations.  Despite the shock and disbelief, local parents didn't let it get them down.

"I wanted to make sure that I did everything I could to bring that money back in," Missy Madigan, President of Toth Parents' Club said.

Shortly after the news broke, the community support came pouring in and the "Going the Extra Mile" fundraiser was born.

"We had a wonderful turnout of parents and kids," Sherina Ohanian, President of PEPA said. "It was a fundraiser but it was also coming together of everyone in the community."

More than 400 people came out and raised roughly $8,000.  Cash that will help both organizations stay on their feet this year.

"It feels like morale is pretty high going into the new school year," Madigan said.  "Everything seems to be good, we're going forward the same way we always have, no set backs."

"It means we can move forward with some of the programs we have planned for this year, " Ohanian said.

But the groups haven't forgotten the thefts that cost them so much, and neither has the community.
