Republicans say great speeches don't create jobs

Posted: Updated:
CHARLOTTE, North Carolina -

Former President Bill Clinton delivered a rousing nomination speech at the DNC last night.

He two-term Democrat offered his reasons why Barack Obama should be the next 2-term president.

Republicans say that while the speeches this week are impressive, speeches don't change reality.

Virginia Governor Bob McDonnel says, "At the end of the day, speeches don't create jobs. Good policies do. And this week, while all these good speeches are going on here, we've got the highest gas prices ever for a Labor Day on Monday. Tuesday, we come out with the debt numbers. $16 trillion in debt. That's $200,000 per family of four.

He added that the President's speech will probably be one of the best we've heard. But we will still wake up tomorrow with an unemployment rate of over eight percent.
