TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) -- The presidential election is two months away, and there is still no place to vote early in Lucas County. Now, Ohio's Secretary of State is stepping in, giving the local board of elections a deadline to set one up.
13abc obtained a copy of letter from Secretary of State John Husted. In it, he states The Lucas County Board of Elections has to find an "acceptable," "agreeable" location for in-person absentee voting by September 14th.
Right now, the board is at a stalemate.
As Husted points out in his letter, board members tied on six locations for in-person voting, including the Lucas County Rec Center in Maumee, the former Northwest Toledo Police Substation, One Government Center, the business technology center, the Xerox building and the 911 Emergency Center.
If the Lucas County BOE can't agree on an early voting center, Husted says he will pick one. He's giving board members another week to come up with a place, setting a deadline for next Friday.
13abc sat down with County Commissioner Pete Gerken and talked about the lack of an early voting center at this point during an election year. Gerken says he feels it should have been set weeks ago.
