Victory Center helps clear minds of cancer patients

TOLEDO, Ohio -

13abc will other major networks to air the star-studded "Stand Up to Cancer" fundraising event this evening and there are a lot of people here locally looking forward to it.

Kathleen Walsh was diagnosed with breast cancer over a year ago, but today she's proud to say she beat the odds and wants to see others do the same.

" Help other women, other people through this process as well to continue to grow yourself," says Walsh

She just wrapped up treatment about 6 weeks ago. She also spent a lot of time at The Victory Center. It's a non profit organization that helps people diagnosed with cancer. They offer therapy, massages, and counseling and it's all free.

"The holistic services that I have never tried before until I was a cancer patient certainly those days where you're feeling pretty sick, just to have that moment where you are feeling special and about me," says Walsh

The organizations executive director says half the battle in fighting cancer is maintaining a positive attitude by staying relaxed and stress free. She says hospitals treat the body their job is to treat the mind.

"People going through cancer often don't have that extra money to be able to treat themselves and do something just for themselves, so getting a massage or a reflex treatment or a facial is a treat it's a chance for them to do something for themselves that's going to help them feel better. Success and healing is going to be from having a positive attitude and that's something you can get a lot of here," says Dianne Cherry, Exec. Director, The Victory Center

Kathleen says it was the care from all the volunteers at the victory center that helped her beat cancer.
