Lourdes Men's Volleyball 8th/9 at WHAC Jamboree #1

Posted: Updated:

Lourdes University's men's golf team competed in the first Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference jamboree of the season on Saturday afternoon, shooting a team score of 333 at Lenawee Country Club in Adrian, Mich.

The Gray Wolves finished in eighth place for the afternoon while Siena Heights won the team title shooting 295, a three-stroke victory over Madonna.

"The course we played today was very tough," head coach Scott Simon said following play.  "The windy and chilly conditions made it play even tougher."

Jacob VanDyke (North Canton, Ohio/Hoover H.S.) finished in a tie for 11th place individually, leading Lourdes on the day.  The freshman carded a four-over par 75, including an even par front nine.

"I am pretty excited with the way that Jacob has continued to improve," Simon added.  "He keeps knocking shots off of his score in each round he has played this year."

Sean McGuire (Twinsburg, Ohio/Twinsburg H.S.) fired an 84 while Cody Berg (Garrettsville, Ohio/James A. Garfield H.S.) carded an 86 for the Gray Wolves.  Brandon Henry (Lambertville, Mich./Bedford H.S.) and James Seibert (Toledo, Ohio/Bowsher H.S.) each posted 88s while Nick Flasco (Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio/Woodridge H.S.) added a 91 to round out the lineup.

"Hopefully we can start to get some consistency from everyone as we head into Tuesday's round," Simon concluded.  "We've had a pretty good start so far."

Adam Schmaltz of Siena Heights fired a one-under par 70 to win the individual title by strokes.

Lourdes will return to action on Tuesday afternoon for day one of the two-day WHAC Jamboree #2.  Play will begin at 1 p.m. at Quail Ridge Golf Club in Ada, Mich.
