Man says artwork caused wreck

COLUMBUS, Ohio -

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - A driver who rear-ended a van blames what happened on colorful 300-foot murals honoring an Ohio city's bicentennial.

The Clintonville Historical Society project alongside a road portrays life in two Columbus neighborhoods. The murals feature portraits of people and brightly colored farms and businesses.

But The Columbus Dispatch  reports Steven Yoho says he rear-ended a van while looking at the murals in July. He says another driver who claimed to be distracted by the artwork crashed into his car.

City rules require billboards be at least 25 feet from streets and sidewalks. But they don't limit the size or placement of artwork. The murals are sidewalk-width away from traffic.

Columbus police say it's up to drivers to maintain control of their vehicles.
