COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - City officials in Columbus plan to use their share of casino profits to offset state budget cuts and pay for the purchase of a downtown arena.
The Columbus Dispatch (bit.ly/OhhPb6) reports that the city isn't sure yet how much money it will get. They estimate it will be $15- $18 million each year beginning in 2013.
Much of the money will be put into the city's general fund next year. Nearly 25% will go toward the purchase of Nationwide Arena that's home to the Columbus Blue Jackets hockey team..
The rest of the money will be spent on improving roads around the new casino that sets to open this fall in Columbus and toward neighborhood improvement projects.
