If you're planning a
trip to the Sunshine
State, there may be a new
option later this year. The Toledo-Lucas County Port Authority announced some
details about the proposal Tuesday.
A new airline would come
in to Toledo Express and take passengers to Fort Myers, Florida. Board
members approved final negotiations between the Port Authority and the incoming
airline.
The board tells us it
still needs to finalize the deal before announcing more details on the flight.
You may recall Direct
Air used to fly from Toledo to Fort Myers before the company cancelled its
service.
Port Authority President
Paul Toth tells us his department is overseeing the new route.
"The Port Authority
is stepping in," he says. "When someone buys a ticket, that flight is going to
fly, so people can feel comfortable there's not going to be an issue there.
Toth tells us he expects
the deal to be finalized in the next two weeks. He anticipates planes will fly
to Florida
from December through mid-April.
