EVENING NEWS HEADLINES - SEPTEMBER 11, 2012.

NEW LOCAL NEWS

1. EARLY VOTING LOCATION

The Lucas County Board of Elections selected the Summit YMCA as the early voting election location today after a week of back on forth. The board picked that site because of its proximity to pub transportation, parking space and in-place services like phone lines and internet. Early voting must begin October 2 under state law.

2. TRIPLE MURDER SUSPECT ARRAIGNED

The man charged with killing a Sandusky mother and her two children over the weekend, was arraigned in Sandusky Municipal Court today. 41-year-old Clinton Curtis appeared before a judge via video arraignment. The judge set his bond at $3 million. Clinton is accused of killing 23-year-old Heather Jackson and her son and daughter. Police in Clyde say Clinton tried to commit suicide at a motel shortly after the murders. He'd recently been released from prison for killing a Wood County woman in 1997.

NEW STATE NEWS

3. PROVISIONAL BALLOT RULE

(AP) - Responding to a federal judge's order, the state's elections chief has issued new rules for counting provisional ballots. Poll workers are being told to count so-called "right church, wrong pew" ballots -- cast by voters who go to the correct polling place but are mistakenly directed to the voting location for the wrong precinct.

4. SCHOOL REPORT CARDS

(AP) - The state school board has again blocked releasing school performance report cards amid an attendance-tampering probe. Board members killed a proposal today to publish the numbers with a disclaimer that the data was under review.

NEW NATIONAL NEWS

5. OBAMAS VISIT GRAVES OF WAR DEAD

(AP) - President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle Obama have spent some time at Arlington National Cemetery today visiting the graves of service members killed in Afghanistan and Iraq. The visit was part of the president's observance of the 11th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks. The Obamas quietly walked through the rows of graves at Section 60. That's where the most recent war dead are buried.

6. "FISCAL CLIFF"

(AP) - If the federal budget goes over the so-called "fiscal cliff," the U.S. government's debt rating could take the fall with it. Moody's Investors Service says it would likely cut its "Aaa" rating by one notch, if budget negotiations fail. If Congress and the White House don't reach a budget deal, about $1.2 trillion in spending cuts and tax increases will automatically kick in starting Jan. 2.
