Safeguarding Ohio's rail crossings

The state says it's continuing its effort to make Ohio rail crossings safer .

The public utilities commission of Ohio today approved the installation of lights and gates at four rail crossings in Seneca , Hancock, and Wood counties.

Norfolk Southern, and CSX will make the installations.  They're expected to be finished by June of next year . The Associated Press reports the annual number of car-train crashes in Ohio has decreased significantly,  almost in half from 2001 to 2011.

    Toledo firefighters are on the scene of a house fire on the city's East side. Firefighters were called to a home on Thurston Street between Woodville Road and Starr Avenue just after four this morning. There
    Toledo firefighters battled two house fires on the east side of Toledo Tuesday.  A home in the 400 block of Thurston Avenue was firebombed.  Three adults and two children made it out safely.  Firefighters also put out a house fire in the 700 block of Euclid Avenue near Starr Avenue.

    Heartbreaking photos are coming out of Moore, Oklahoma after a tornado flattened much of the town Monday, killing dozens.
    Heartbreaking images are coming out of Oklahoma after a tornado flattened much of the town Monday.  Emergency crews searched for survivors.  At least 24 were killed including 9 children.
