The 2012 NIT Season Tip-Off Field was announced today and the Bowling Green State University men's basketball team will play Cleveland State in the first round on Nov. 12 at Ann Arbor, Mich.
Cleveland State is seeded seventh in the 16-team field and the two programs will meet for the first time since an 80-72 BGSU victory on Dec. 28, 2002. The winner of the BGSU/Cleveland State game will play the next day against the winner of top-seed Michigan against IUPUI, which will take place at 9 p.m. on Nov. 12. The two losing teams will also face each other on Nov. 13.
If BGSU wins both games, the Falcons would play in the semifinals at Madison Square Garden on Nov. 21, with the championship and consolation game taking place Nov. 23.
If Bowling Green does not win both of its first two games, the Falcons would play a third- and fourth-round doubleheader Nov. 19 and 20. These games will be played on the campuses of the three highest remaining seeds. Participating teams will not play any team twice and all teams will be assigned to the most geographically compatible site possible.
The top four seeds for the event are No. 1 Michigan, No. 2 Virginia, No. 3 Kansas State, and No. 4 Pittsburgh. Those four teams host first- and second-round contests. Lehigh is the No. 5 seed, followed by No. 6 Robert Morris, No. 7 Cleveland State, and No. 8 Delaware.
The 2012 NIT Season Tip-Off will be carried by the ESPN family of networks, televising games on ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU and ESPN3. All game broadcasts will also be available on WatchESPN.
