Leaders at the Islamic Center of Greater Toledo is speaking out in response to the attacks at the US Embassies in Egypt and Libya.
"Killing one person is killing all of mankind," says Imam Farooq Aboelzahab of the Islamic Center of Greater Toledo in Perrysburg. He is speaking out after an attack in Libya kills four Americans at the US Embassy, including the US Ambassador to Libya.
"We condemn that attack because it is not the right way to express our feeling. Not right way to protest. Should be as peaceful as possible," says Aboelzahab.
Protests continue to rage at American Embassies abroad. Many say the violence is sparked by an anti-Islamic movie.
YouTube actually blocked the clip online in Egypt and Libya because Muslims say it portrays the Prophet Mohammed as a womanizer who approved of pedophilia.
The movie is called "Innocence of Muslims" and you can still see it in the US.
"I have seen a clip of it on the Internet. It is very, very trashy," says Aboelzahab. He is condemning the movie but urges Muslims to react peacefully, not by killing anyone.
Leaders at the Islamic Center in Perrysburg hope to spread a message of peace and respect this weekend.
The Islamic Center is gearing up for its 12th annual International Festival this Saturday and Sunday celebrating diversity.
"This is a way to reach out to the community to educate others and to share our culture, saying we are American like everyone else," says Aboelzahab.
"The Islamic Center of Greater Toledo expresses deep sadness and strongly condemns the loss of life and destruction of property in the US consulate attack in Libya and the US embassy in Egypt. Our thoughts and prayers go to the families of those harmed.
The violence at the US missions was sparked by an American-made film that viewers, including our Secretary of State say humiliates and insults Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). The Islamic Center condemns the production and release of such offensive and indecent materials or films.
The Islamic Center of Greater Toledo urges calm and restraint to Muslims worldwide, reminding them that violence and killing are expressly forbidden in Islam. Responses to the recurring insults to Islam and Prophet Muhammad should remain peaceful and in accordance with the teachings of Islam. "
The statement was issued by the Islamic Center's public relations chairman, Abdel-Wahab Soliman.
