COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - Ohio's elections chief has reconvened the panel that approves ballot language after the Ohio Supreme Court scolded the board for poorly wording a fall ballot issue on redistricting.
Secretary of State Jon Husted (HYOO'-sted) called an emergency meeting of the state Ballot Board for Thursday to rewrite Issue 2.
The turn of events follows a lawsuit filed by the group backing the issue, Voters First, arguing the board's original wording left out key elements of its elaborate proposal. The high court ruled Wednesday that board-approved language was inaccurate and incomplete.
The group proposes a constitutional amendment creating a new system for drawing Ohio's legislative and congressional maps. It would strip state and federal elected officials of their role in the process and give the job to a 12-person commission.
