Hundreds will be hoofing it for a great cause in Wood County this weekend. This Saturday is the 5th annual Serenity Farm family fun walk and run in Pemberville. There's a fun twist this year. Thunder the miniature horse will be walking alongside everyone and he's been practicing all week!
Serenity Farm uses horses to help people with physical disabilities as well as mental and emotional challenges. Debra DeHoff is the founder and Executive Director,"If it is a client with cerebral palsy the horse acts as a catalyst and helps them learn to walk by strengthening their hips and legs. In equine assisted psycho-therapy, we work with people who may have been in the military, foster children, children who are victims of sexual abuse. The horses help them build and gain trust through self esteem and educational patterns"
They hope to raise at least $7,000 at the event. It will be held in downtown Pemberville this Saturday morning. The starting point is front of the fire hall. Registration is at 9am. The run starts at 10am, the walk at 10:15.
