CLEVELAND – Bowling Green State University sophomore Danny Baraldi has been named the Mid-American Conference Men's Soccer Player of the Week, the league office announced late Tuesday morning (Sept. 11). Baraldi earns the honor for the first time in his Falcon career.
Baraldi, a native of Canton, Ohio (Massillon Jackson H.S), was named to the all-tournament team at the Coastal Carolina University Invitational in Conway, S.C., over the weekend. He scored two goals against the host school, No. 18 CCU, as BGSU battled the host Chanticleers to a 3-3 tie Sunday afternoon (Sept. 9).
For Baraldi, the two-goal game was the first of his BGSU career. He now has team-leading totals of three goals and six points this season to date. Baraldi, who led the Falcons in scoring last fall, now has 24 points in 23 career matches. The pride of Stark County now has eight goals and eight assists in his BG tenure to lead active Falcons in each of those categories.
Baraldi's MAC Player-of-the-Week honor was the Falcons' second this season. Junior goalkeeper Michael Wiest earned league weekly accolades on Aug. 28.
The Falcons of coach Eric Nichols conclude a three-match road swing with a match at Cleveland State on Friday night (Sept. 14). The Brown and Orange then will return home for the next three matches, beginning with a Tuesday (Sept. 18) contest vs. Detroit. Nationally-ranked Akron and Milwaukee also will come to Cochrane Field during that stretch.
