Sean McGuire (Twinsburg, Ohio/Twinsburg H.S.) led Lourdes for the second straight day at the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference jamboree on Wednesday afternoon, helping the Gray Wolves to their second best round of the season as a team at Stonewater Country Club in Caledonia, Mich.
Lourdes shot 327 as a team to finish the 36-hole event over two different courses at 670, finishing in eighth place. Davenport won the event at 612 (309-303), a nine-stroke victory over Madonna and Northwestern Ohio.
"We seemed to get some more consistent play out of the guys today," head coach Scott Simon said afterwards. "We keep getting better in each round, especially on day two of these events. I'm just looking for continued improvement right now."
McGuire carded a 79 on Wednesday to follow up his 78 from Tuesday at Quail Ridge Golf Club in Ada, Mich. to finish at 157, tying for 15th place overall, just five strokes outside of the top-five. Jacob VanDyke (North Canton, Ohio/Hoover H.S.) shaved nine strokes over his round one total to fire an 80 in round two, finishing second for Lourdes overall at 169.
Cody Berg (Garrettsville, Ohio/James A. Garfield H.S.) also took nine strokes off of his Tuesday score with an 82 on Wednesday to finish at 173. Nick Flasco (Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio/Woodridge H.S.) added an 86 to finish at 171 to round out the scorers on the afternoon.
James Siebert (Toledo, Ohio/Bowsher H.S.) posted a 90 to finish at 184 while Jordan May (Salem, Ohio/United H.S.) shot 96 to card 190 over the 36 holes.
Northwestern Ohio's Keith Long won the individual title after shooting one-over par 72 on Wednesday to finish at plus-six for the tournament (149).
Lourdes will have nine days off from competition before returning to action Sept. 21-22 at the Bill Bockwitz Intercollegiate hosted by Spring Arbor. Round one begins at noon with a shotgun start at Cascades Golf Club in Jackson, Mich.
