Toledo will look to build on its momentum from last weekend's victory at the Redbird Invitational when it travels to East Lansing, MI for the Mary Fossum Invitational. The event is being held on Michigan State's Forest Akers West Golf Course on Sept. 15-16 with a 9:00 a.m. shotgun start being utilized on Saturday and 8:30 a.m. on Sunday. The par-72 course covers over 6,236 yards and has been recognized as one of the top public courses in Michigan. UT will play 36 holes on Saturday and finish with 18 holes on Sunday.
Senior Allison Schultz led the Rockets last week with a runner-up finish at the Redbird Invite to earn Mid-American Conference Women's Golfer of the Week accolades. Schultz carded a career-best 222 (75-75-72) with each of her rounds resulting in a career best. Joining Schultz in UT's lineup this weekend will be junior Kate Hoops, sophomore Becky Martin, sophomore Stephanie St-Jean and freshman Sathika Ruenreong.
"We're definitely going to be challenged this weekend by both a tough course and some top-notch competition," Toledo Head Coach Nicole Hollingsworth said. "The girls are playing with a lot of confidence right now, and I'm looking forward to seeing us perform following our win."
The Rockets, which finished 10th in last year's event, will battle 15 other teams in the tournament with four MAC foes – Bowling Green, Eastern Michigan, Kent State and Western Michigan – also participating. The other teams taking part are Ferris State, Louisiana-Monroe, Miami (FL), Michigan, Minnesota, Notre Dame, Oakland, Purdue, Texas State, Wisconsin and the host Spartans.
Martin led Toledo in last year's event by tying for 32nd place at 20-over par 236 (76-80-80).
The scoring format for the two-day tournament will consist of each team fielding five players, with the lowest four scores counting for each round.
