A new effort at Bowling Green State University may help save lives. It's designed to raise awareness about suicide and teach faculty, students, and staff on campus how to spot the warning signs.
It's called "Empowering a Community: Creating a Culture of Car for Suicide Prevention." The project was made possible by a 4 year, $306 thousand grant. That money will go toward training faculty and staff how to recognize the signs and when to intervene, and the timing couldn't have been better. Many students faced sudden loss last year. Ten students died from various causes, including 3 sorority sisters killed in a horrific wrong way crash on I-75.
"We did go through a lot last year on campus," Garrett Gilmer, Director of Counseling Center said. "Our mission is to not only work with individuals who come and see us on a day to day basis, but also to meet the mental health needs of the campus as a whole."
