Students in Action is a service group created by Springfield High School students who want to give back to their community. More than 100 kids spent their Saturday shining up service vehicles used by first responders and even treating them to lunch.
The leader of Students in Action, Kohl Taberner said, "We decided, 9/11, so many firefighters and police officers lost their lives. What a better way to help them by serving them directly and coming out and helping them?"
Springfield Fire Captain Bill Montrie says firefighters appreciate the gesture. "We're always there when it's something bad and to have someone come in and say, "Hey thanks for what you guys do everyday," it really means a lot to the guys. The guys are really appreciative of it and it's a good thing. I think it's a really good team building effort."
Students not only washed the vehicles but they also provided lunch at three Springfield Township fire stations and the Holland Police Station.
