Falcon & Rocket fans celebrate rivalry

TOLEDO, Ohio -

It's the Rockets home opener and they're hosting their rivals the BGSU Falcons.

The game kicked off Saturday at 7pm and the Glass Bowl was packed with fans. Many of them have been tailgating all day.

Falcon and Rocket flags filled the parking lots and in some spots both sides celebrated side by side.

Geri Dennis and Terick Cook were having a great time despite rooting for different teams,

"Partying together, tailgating together, tell me about that? We like, love each other, we're a mixed family."

And there was plenty of barbeques and games being played. Many enjoying their annual game rituals instead of battling the cold as in years past.

Tailgaters say they like having this big game scheduled early in the season.

Falcon fan Brett Perz said, "I don't mind it, it's nice out here it's perfect tailgating weather so it's good to be out here and not shivering and cold and stuff so that's kind of a nice aspect to it."

UT Marching Band member Ashlee Bana was also enjoyed the schedule change, "It's kind of new that it's at the beginning.  It's kind of exciting to be able to celebrate and go hard right at the beginning and everyone's here and everyone comes out in support."

The Rockets made it three in a row, sending the Falcons packing back down I-75. Final score: UT 27 and BG 15.

Extra police officers are also patrolling campus to cope with what officials think will be a larger than average crowd.
