Gray Wolves Fall to Siena Heights to Close Home Volleyball Tournament

Posted: Updated:

Lourdes wrapped up play in its own Gray Wolf Invitational on Saturday afternoon with a 25-17, 25-18, 25-15 loss to Siena Heights at Tam-o-Shanter.  The Gray Wolves scheduled match against Ohio State-Marion was cancelled due to health issues with the Scarlet Wave.

"We weren't ready to play from the start and then never found our rhythm throughout the match," head coach Greg Reitz stated afterwards.  "They dictated tempo and we weren't able to challenge them."

Siena Heights hit .320, committing just two errors in the opening set to jump out to the early lead.  The Saints led by just one, 13-12, in set two before finishing with a 12-6 run to build a two set advantage.

In set three, the Saints held the Gray Wolves to negative hitting, and a 16-4 run early in the set proved to be the difference.

Katie McKenty (Toledo, Ohio/Notre Dame H.S.) led Lourdes with 10 kills while Shelby Schuster (Sylvania, Ohio/Southview H.S.) added seven more for the Gray Wolves.  Michi Jimenez (Vega Baja, P.R./Juan Quirindongo Morell H.S.) handed out 26 assists and led Lourdes with 12 digs.

Lindsey Adams led Siena Heighs (8-3) with 10 kills while Nicole Morgan and Halie Baker each had 10 digs for the Saints, which won the tournament with a perfect 4-0 record.

Lourdes (6-12) will return to action on Wednesday evening, heading to Grand Rapids, Mich. to battle Cornerstone in a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference match.  First serve is set for 7 p.m.
