Church puts faith into practice with food drive

Posted: Updated:
TOLEDO, Ohio -

Most churches pass the plate on Sunday, Cedar Creek is also passed out bags last week, hoping members of the congregation return them full of food for the needy.

Pastor Lee Powell says, "This is the second time we've done this and the why now is because hunger is just in our community is absolutely unacceptable for people going hungry it's just shouldn't happen."

Pastor Powell of says the church teamed up with the Andersons, Cumulous Broadcasting and other local groups to participate in this year's Impact food drive. Bags that were passed out last weekend are now filled with all kinds of items for families.

Tiffany Cole was one of the people who donated.  "We get involved each time they do have a need. it's good to give back and stay involved with the community and the church as well."

Cathy Nierman said, "It's just the right thing to do. everyone deserves to have a good meal and it shouldn't matter what your situation is. people are having hard times. Those who can afford it should help out."

Parents used it as a real-life lesson for kids on how to give.

The food is sorted and then taken to the Seagate Food Bank to be distributed to area food pantries.

Pastor Powell says it's a good chance to practice what he preaches. "For me it's living out the scripture and that's what we're called to do, so as a pastor, when I see the food drive going so well, it thrills me."

Donations can be dropped off at any of the four Cedarcreek Church locations.
