DUBLIN, OH – The Bowling Green State University tennis team completed play at the Muirfield Collegiate Tennis Invitational on Sunday (Sept. 16). Juniors Emily Reuland and Nikki Chiricosta# lost in the doubles championship match, while Reuland was knocked out of the singles bracket in the semifinal round. The three-day, seven-team event was held at The Country Club at Muirfield Village. The tourney field includes players from Ohio State, the host school, along with BGSU, Akron, Cincinnati, Eastern Kentucky, Kentucky and Louisville.
Reuland dropped her semifinal-round singles match to Louisville's Julia Fellerhoff, the top-seeded player in the bracket, but scores of 6-4 and 6-0. Fellerhoff was defeated by her U of L teammate, second-seeded Becca Shine, in the championship.
In doubles, the Chiricosta/Reuland duo lost to the Cardinals' tandem of Fellerhoff and Manuela Velasquez, 8-3, in Sunday's final.
Falcon freshman Katie Brozovich posted a pair of wins over Cincinnati foes in back-draw singles play on Sunday. She defeated Kelly Poggensee-Wei by identical 6-1 scores, then defeated Ashleigh Witte, 8-2, in a shortened match.
Senior Maddy Eccleston fell to Eastern Kentucky's Kristina Labeja in back-draw action, by scores of 6-2 and 6-3. Eccleston and Brozovich lost to a Louisville duo in the back-draw doubles final, falling to Shine and Tachovsky by an 8-3 outcome.
As a group, the four Falcons completed the season-opening tournament with a record of 16-9, including an 11-6 singles mark and a 5-3 doubles record.
