Still no arrests in death of Ottawa Co. baby

Posted: Updated:

Nearly seven months after an Ottawa County baby's death was ruled a homicide, there's still no arrest. Tonight the victim's father is speaking out for the first time.

Jon Henderson will never get to see his son smile or walk.

"The first time I got to hold him it nearly killed me because the nurse told me that I wasn't even holding my son I was just holding his body. his spirit was already gone," said the victim's father Jon Henderson.

In March, Henderson's 7-week-old son, Kalib, was rushed to three different hospitals after the father says the boy suffered severe skull fractures, detached herniated retina, bruising and cuts to the baby's face.

"The story was one of the little kids had dropped him, but the doctor said there's no way a two or three year old dropped him and caused the injuries. He said his injuries were equivalent to a grown adult slamming him to the ground multiple times," said the victim's father.

The Ottawa County Sheriffs Office is tight lipped about the investigation. The detective told 13abc the incident happened March 9. Investigators were called to St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center the next day.  The case has been presented to the prosecutors office to determine if any charges should be filed.

The victim's father wants answers.

"Anybody that harms an innocent little child they don't deserve to be walking free," said Henderson.

Henderson says he was in California serving our country in the Navy when Kalib was allegedly abused. Investigators say it happened at a home at 1659 North Carroll Erie road.

According to court documents, the baby was with his mother, her boyfriend and other people. The mother claimed a three-year-old dropped the baby. Henderson isn't buying the story.

"I want to know who did it why they did it. I want them to pay," said Henderson.

For now Henderson is waiting for answers from the sheriff's office.  Henderson is separated from the baby's mother.  Lucas County Children Services gave him full custody of their young daughter.

Again, the sheriffs office tells me there are persons of interest that are still under investigation.
