Ohio to get federal grant to aid storm recovery

Posted: Updated:

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - Ohio is getting millions of dollars in grant money from the U.S. Department of Labor to create temporary jobs to help with the cleanup and recovery from severe storms in late June and early July.

The agency announced a National Emergency Grant of up to $21.4 million on Monday. It says $6 million will be released initially, and more will be available if the state demonstrates it needs more help.

The money goes to the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services.

The grant is meant to aid the 37 counties deemed eligible for the Federal Emergency Management Agency's Public Assistance Program following storms between June 29 and July 2. Those areas stretch from Ohio's southern tip to Paulding County in the northwest and Harrison County in eastern Ohio.
