Ohioan who caused crash, electrocution sentenced

Posted: Updated:

A northwest Ohio driver has been sentenced to three years in prison for leaving a car crash scene that led to the electrocution of a man who arrived to help and stepped on a downed power line.

A Putnam County judge sentenced 26-year-old Dylan Brinkman of Delphos on Monday. Prosecutors had recommended a more lenient sentence, but the judge disagreed, saying Brinkman had tried to flee prosecution and had caused the death of 42-year-old Michael Feldman of Cloverdale.

Authorities said Brinkman was drunk when he hit a power pole in January near Kalida and ran away. They say Feldman arrived at the crash scene intending to help the driver but stepped on a live wire and died.

Brinkman apologized to Feldman's family in court.

The family has sued Brinkman.
