Six in 10 Ohioans will be obese by 2030, according to predictions in an annual report on the nation's struggle with excess weight.
The nonprofit Trust for America's Health, in collaboration with the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, says that in the next two decades obesity could contribute to:
Almost 1.6 million new cases of type 2 diabetes.
About 3.4 million cases of coronary heart disease and stroke.
Roughly 3.1 million cases of high blood pressure.
About 2 million cases of arthritis.
More than 470,000 cases of obesity-related cancer.
The predictions are in this year's edition of F as in Fat: How Obesity Threatens America's Future. The analysis was done by the National Heart Forum and is based on a model published last year in the medical journal The Lancet.
The report was released this morning and also includes a ranking of the states.
Ohio was ranked 13th, in a tie with Kansas for its 29.6 percent adult obesity rate in 2011. Colorado was ranked least obese, at 20.7 percent, and Mississippi was ranked most obese at 34.9 percent of adults.
