TOLEDO, Ohio -

A mobile dental center, a flu shot clinic and other health services were provided in the community today as part of the annual Take Your Loved One to the Doctor Day.

Teresa Reditt says the health fair comes at a good time. "A lot of people are out of jobs and out of work and they don't have the health care that they need to get themselves taken care of."

The event was held at the field house at Scott High School. Take Your Loved One to the Doctor Day is part of a national campaign aimed to get more minorities, particularly African Americans, to become committed to seeing a doctor on a regular basis.

Reditt tells 13abc,  "I'm here to get myself checked out I haven't seen a doctor in 2 years." Today city leaders were also on hand, pushing early prevention.

Toledo Mayor Mike Bell tells 13abc,  "If you got an issue, its much cheaper on you and it will be less harmful for you if you get it take care of early and that's why these people are here today to get them to the doctors and get them take care of."

Political prevention of sorts was also included. Juan Hustle was able to register to vote. He tells 13abc, "Today I found out that I was one of the one point three million people whose name got purged from voting so I got myself re-registered to vote."

The Take Your Loved One to the Doctor Day hopes to send a strong message to minority communities that prevention and early detection of health problems is a number one priority.
