Imagination Stations kicks off levy campaign

Posted: Updated:
TOLEDO, Ohio -

Imagination Station is hoping voters will help them pass a levy this November.

The science center kicked off a push to educate voters about issue 26. Supporters like Deicie Sawyers are hoping voters will say yes to the renewal levy in November. Now in her junior year at the university of Toledo, Deicie says the science center was an important part to her upbringing.

"It let me experience science in a different way other than at school sitting at a desk. If it were to close I would be sad because other kids would not be able to have the same experience," says Deicie Sawyers.

Twila Page says she's been a baby sitter for years- and says the science center has always been a fun and educational way to spend the day.

"I have a lot of the children that I brought here, that are graduating college and they're productive citizens," says Twila Page

Leaders say the funds from the existing levy represent roughly a third of the science centers budget. It's been helping with upkeep on exhibits while keeping prices low for visitors. It's the science centers fourth levy campaign. The Imagination Stations Executive Director, Lori Hauser says voters have always been supportive- she's hoping the response this November will be the same.

"Ninety percent of all science centers receive some type of public support. Ours is one of the smallest levies in the state of Ohio to have a vital science center in the community."

The levy would costs the owner of a $100,000 home just over $5 a year.
