NEW NATIONAL NEWS

5. ROMNEY DAMAGE CONTROL

(AP) - Mitt Romney continues to try to tamp down the fallout from his secretly recorded comments about nearly half of Americans believing they are "victims." Speaking at a fundraiser in Atlanta, Romney said both he and President Barack Obama care about the poor and the middle class. But Romney says only he can help those groups. 6. DID JESUS HAVE A WIFE?

(AP) - Scholars are questioning the discovery by a Harvard scholar that a fragment of text from the 4th century suggests that Jesus may have had a wife. A professor of early Christianity announced yesterday that the text includes a dialogue in which Jesus refers to "my wife," whom he identifies as Mary. One expert is wondering whether the document was authentic. Another says it looks like a forgery. Any evidence on whether Jesus was married or had a female disciple could affect current debates on the role of women in the church.
