NEW LOCAL NEWS

1. OBAMA/ROMNEY

Northwest Ohio will host both presidential candidates next week, on the same day. President Obama and Mitt Romney will be on the stump in our area on Wednesday. It's a story we first broke this afternoon through a text alert and 13abc.com. The president will host an event in Bowling Green. Romney will head to the Toledo area after appearances elsewhere in the state with his running mate, Paul Ryan.

2. TOLEDO TAX COLLECTION

Toledo is bringing in more tax dollars this year. City councilman George Sarantou tells us collections are up 3.5%. That's a jump of more than $320 million dollars from 2011. Sarantou says a big chunk of that comes from Toledo's new Hollywood Casino and its employees. He also credits the expansion at the Toledo Assembly Complex.

NEW STATE NEWS

3. CANADIAN AUTO WORKERS

The Canadian Auto Workers Union says it has reached a tentative deal with General Motors. Earlier this week, the union and Ford came to an agreement and extended contracts with GM and Chrysler. Workers wanted the Ford contract to serve as a template for the other two companies. There is no deal yet with Chrysler.

4. INMATE EXECUTED

(AP) - An Ohio inmate has been executed for killing two men he didn't know along a country road in 1989. Donald Palmer was given a lethal injection this morning at a state prison in Lucasville in southern Ohio. NEW NATIONAL NEWS

5. TROOPS LEAVE AFGHANISTAN

(AP) - U.S. officials say the last of 33,000 surge troops ordered to Afghanistan have left the country. The withdrawal leaves 68,000 American forces in the warzone. President Barack Obama ordered the surge of troops to Afghanistan nearly two years ago to tamp down the escalating Taliban violence.

6. ENDEAVOUR JOURNEY

(AP) - Retired space shuttle Endeavour is spending the night at Edwards Air Force Base as it makes its way to a Los Angeles museum. Riding aboard a 747 jet today, Endeavour made a loop over Tucson, Ariz., much to the delight of former Arizona Rep.
